Etched copper and sterling silver brooch.

Etching was created from a public-domain image of Mars' surface captured by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

This one-of-a-kind brooch was inspired by the 2020 landing of the Mars Perseverance Rover and the book, The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury.

Back of the brooch includes the passage,

“We won’t ruin Mars,” said the captain. 
“It’s too big and too good.”“You think not? We Earth Men have a talent for ruining big, beautiful things.”

This is the second piece of an ongoing series.

Sterling Silver, Fused Silver and hand-cut Jasper of unknown provenance.

This cut of stone is reminiscent of what’s known as “mud season” in Colorado. Dark, rich mud and red soil interspersed with tender shoots of pale green plant growth—much how I imagine terraforming would progress on a distant planet.

Fused silver on the right side mimics the striations in the stone and is meant to evoke blades of grass, while the modern construction of the cuff brings to mind a futuristic and space-age feel.
